Michael Moore
Biography: Michael Moore was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. His mother was a secretary and his father was an automotive assembly-line worker. Moore was raised a Catholic, however disagrees with some of the Catholic teachings, such as same sex marriage and abortion. He attended a 2 Catholic schools, and then finished high school at Davison High School. When he was 18 he found a job at the Davidson school board. Moore married Kathleen Glynn in 1991, who is a producer of Michael's movies. In 2005 "Time" magazine put Moore's name in the worlds 100 top influential people of all time. Moore gained popularity from making a few documentaries including, Fahrenheit 9/11, Bowling for Columbine, and Sicko. All of these movies were nation wide hits, and showed political flaws such as, assault weapon ownership, U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, the Iraq War, and the American health care system.
The Calling: Moore's first movie was called "Roger and Me" and it was based on how General Motors factory shut down in the US, and a new one opened up in Mexico where the workers were paid much less. This made Michael angry, mostly because there were many jobs lost in his home town. This was the first inspirational movie that Michael made. After this movies Moore made eight more movies, all with a purpose of trying to make the US a better and safer place. Roger and Me really changed the way Michael thought about the states; ever since then he has been trying to spread awareness about the bad things the government has done.
Turmoil: Michael sacrificed his political magazine, to make political movies. Moore moved to California to take part of another magazine company called Mother Jones, and that made his magazine company called the "Michigan Voice" shut down. After working for Mother Jones for four months he was fired for refusing to publish an article that was about the Sandinista human rights record in Nicaragua. He refused the article because he felt that it was inaccurate. Moore said "The article was flatly wrong and the worst kind of patronizing bull****. You would scarcely know from it that the United States had been at war with Nicaragua for the last five years." After Moore was fired he sued Mother Jones for wrongful dismissal. He won the battle and gained himself $58 000 which he put toward the making of "Roger and Me".
Time Of Crisis: Michael Moore was ridiculed, and disliked by many who were against his views. He believed in no guns, which more then half the American population were against. He also made many points that were against the government and pointed out their mistakes such as in his movie "Bowling For Columbine" he made a point that Clinton gave orders to bomb a "weapons factory" in Sudan, when it turned out to be an Aspirin factory.
The government views he had were not disliked, it was the anti violence. Moore also tried to become the president of the National Rifle Association just for the purpose of shutting it down right afterwards. However he gave up shortly after because it was too difficult. This effects the US because there is thousands of deaths each and every year due to guns.
Spokesperson: Moore is going on constant talk shows especially "The ED Show". He tells Americans over and over to send emails to the political leaders such as the leader of the NRA named David Keene, telling them to shut down the company to ban guns in America. Michael also encouraged Americans to email the vice president. He feels that if one morning the government received fifty thousand emails, they would have to make a change.
