Ecuador Experience 2017 Teacher Team
Maureen Egan
I have been teaching visual art since 1995 when I started at St. Joseph's C.H.S. here in Barrie. I have been a “Panther” since the very beginning when St. Peter's opened in 1996. St. Peter’s has been home to me for so many years, and I feel blessed to be working with wonderful people and to have the chance to teach something I truly love. The mission to Ecuador is something I contemplated for many years and now that I am a part of it, I am so excited to get started! To have the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective , and to share it with friends, colleagues and students , well, I am really lucky. This will be an experience of a lifetime and I am so grateful to have this opportunity!

St. Peter’s has been my second home since 2005, when I was hired to teach Science. I love our school community and enjoying being involved - that’s the best way to meet new people and experience new things! I am a person who loves to be outdoors and I recognize the importance of protecting our environment. I love to spend time hiking the trails in Springwater, skiing with my daughters, playing ball hockey and baseball, and glamping with my family:) Travelling to the Amazon, to see the wonders of the rainforest and to build a school, has always been a dream of mine. I am very grateful to be part of the Ecuador 2017 team and am very lucky to have the support of my wonderful husband and family. I am looking forward to the adventure, the friendship and the experiences that this mission will bring!

I have been a teacher since 1998, originally teaching in Kirkland Lake and then St. Peter's since 2005. I am so excited to be a part of this mission team. The wonderful things that we will do and see come only second to being surrounded by the amazing teachers and students that are a part of this journey. I am twice as excited because I will also be the lucky teacher who will guide our students through the Leadership Course and 12 Religion credit this year. I have to extend a special thank you to my two children, Zach and Jillian who have been incredibly supportive of this trip. Also, who can forget my parents, Pat and Ken McNamara who will watch my kids while we are in Ecuador.

As the newest member of St. Peter’s Catholic, I am looking forward to this extraordinary trip and the blessed opportunity to work with the mission team. I have been with the board since 2002, and have lead several student tours through Europe, so this will be my first visit to South America. As I prepare physically and spiritually for this journey, I have the support of my husband, Louie; and even though my daughters, Cassie and Hillary, have finished university and live on their own, they will share in my experience. I thank God for this opportunity to be a servant leader and pray for another successful mission as a representative of this school and board.
